Hawks upend Bison on Homecoming, 3-1

Recap
Sophomore Lizz McKinnon scored her seventh goal of the season in Nichols College's 3-1 loss to Roger Williams University Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action at Vendetti Field.

Junior Brooke Misbach turned aside four shots for the Bison (4-4, 2-3 CCC), who outshot the Hawks 15-11 and held a 9-3 edge in penalty corners. Senior Taylor Powell, junior Sydney McCarthy, and freshman Brooke Cenatiempo each scored for the Hawks, who evened their mark at 5-5 on the season (2-3 CCC).

McCarthy opened the scoring at 20:59 before Powell's fifth marker of the campaign extended the RWU lead to 2-0. Cenatiempo's sixth goal of 2018 pushed the lead to 3-0 just past the 10-minute mark of the second half before McKinnon tucked a shot inside the left post to get the Bison on the board.

Three things you need to know...
-McKinnon and junior Erin Kelley each fired off three shots for NC.
-Freshman Callie Flanagan stopped six shots to earn her third win of the season for the Hawks.
-Today's contest marked the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools. The Hawks lead the series, 7-4, and the teams have split the last two meetings.

Quote
"We had more shots and corners in the first half, but we were sluggish and didn't finish. We could have scored early on them, but things just didn't go out way. We have some things to work on. That's why we play teams twice." –Nichols head coach Jenn Townsend
