Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | By: Tyler Gaudette

Strong defensive effort helps Bison cruise to win

Recap
Freshman Lucas Vaadi notched his first collegiate goal as the Nichols College men's soccer team defeated Anna Maria College 4-0 in non-conference play Thursday night at Vendetti Field.

The Bison (5-2-0) scored three goals in the first half in a match that was played primarily in the AMCats end of the field. Eleven minutes into the match, sophomore Nick Cancellaro was fed a ball from junior Chris Noga and poked it by the Anna Maria (1-6-0) goalkeeper to get the Bison on the board early. Ten minutes later, Vaadi corralled a ball off an AMCats defender and rocketed in a shot from 30 yards out to give the Bison the 2-0 lead.

Just before halftime, senior William Aldrich sent a ball across the field from 35 yards out to freshman Evan Lemoine, who was streaking past the defense and punched the ball past the keeper to put the Bison up three. The Nichols defense played a strong first half, allowing only two shots and no corner kicks.

Aldrich received a throw-in deep in the AMCats end early in the second half. In a bazaar turn of events, the throw went all the way to the keeper, where it went off the tips of his fingers and into the net for the fourth goal of the game. Nichols allowed two shots in the second half and held Anna Maria to no corner kicks in the game.

Three things you need to know…
-The Bison outshot the AMCats, 36-5.
-Senior Patrick Porpora and graduate student Zach Suhoza combined for a three-save shutout.
-Anna Maria freshman John Goncalves had nine saves in the match.

Quote
"We came into the game knowing we needed to play more of the attacking style of soccer. We got the result we wanted, and I'm very happy with our rookies (Vaadi and Lemoine). They stepped up to show that they can score goals for us. Front to back the guys played organized. We are looking forward to the CCC game on Saturday." - Nichols head coach Chris Traina
