Recap
Freshman
Nick McGrath buried his first collegiate goal as the Nichols College men's soccer program (1-0-0) opened up the 2018 season with a 2-0 win over the Lions (0-1-0) at Creedon Field.
Junior
Zach Turcotte added a goal with assists from senior
Gregory Giglio and freshman
James Chasco-Dimauro. Sophomore
Nick Cancellaro tallied an assist as well on the goal by McGrath, as the Bison outshot the Lions 28-14.
McGrath opened up the scoring for the game at 15:51 as he received as through ball from Cancellaro and buried it in the back of the net. Less than eight minutes into the second half, the Bison received a corner kick. Chasco-Dimauro took the kick and Giglio was able to head it from the back post to the oncoming Turcotte, who was able to get it past the Lions freshman netminder Florian Resch. The Bison then went on to finish out the match strong and blanking the Lions.
Three things you need to know…

-Coming into action, senior netminder
Patrick Porpora ranked sixth all-time in program history with six career shutouts. Tonight's shutout ties him with 1985 graduate Don Chalmers.
-The Bison only allowed one corner-kick for the game.
Quote
"Naturally, we are pleased with winning our opening match. The pieces are beginning to fit together and the combination of veteran players and hard-working freshmen has begun to show promise. There's lots of work to do and it's a long season. Tonight, we smile. Tomorrow, we go back to work." – Nichols head coach
