WENHAM, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team defeated No. 8 seed Gordon 1-0 before bowing out of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament with a a 4-1 loss to No. 2 Eastern Nazarene Friday afternoon at the Gordon Softball Field.
Game One – No. 6 Nichols 1, No. 8 Gordon 0
Sophomore
Alexis Ferris fired her first complete game shutout of the season and sophomore
Taylor Commesso drove in the only run of the game in the fourth to lift the Bison to a win over the Fighting Scots.
Ferris sent down the first six batters she faced and scattered five hits, allowing only two baserunners to reach second base – once in the third and again in the fifth. She walked one and fanned five to earn her 11th win of the season. In the process, she moved into third-place all-time at Nichols with 271 strikeouts while her 24 wins is No. 10 all-time.
In the fourth, sophomore and CCC Third Team pick
Cara Mayhew walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, scampered to third on a groundout by sophomore
Taylor McIntosh, and came home on a groundout to second by Commesso.
Game Two – Eastern Nazarene 4, Nichols 1
Junior Lauren Clements and freshman Dominique Santos each belted two-run home runs for the Lions.
Senior
Kendall Meehan went 1-for-3 with an RBI in her final collegiate game. Freshman
Jessica Soucie started for NC and allowed five hits and four runs in 4.1 innings of work. She walked three and struck out two before giving way to classmate
Shannon Morin, who tossed 1.2 shutout innings in relief.

Today's game marked the 50th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Gordon College. With the win, the Bison now lead the series, 32-17.
