QUINCY, Mass. – Sophomore Cara Mayhew recorded an RBI double for the Nichols College softball team, which dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 3 seed Western New England Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoffs at Eastern Nazarene College.
 
The Bison (15-18-1) – who eliminated No. 6 seed Curry earlier in the day – trailed 2-0 after three after senior Jenn Luba's RBI double in the first and solo home run in the third. Mayhew cut the NC deficit in half when she plated senior Kendall Meehan in the sixth. In the bottom of the frame, the Golden Bears (21-14) got the run back when sophomore Mallory Donelan singled home senior Jen Zazzarino.
 
Freshman Jessica Soucie started in the circle for the Bison and lasted 3.1 innings, giving up four hits and two runs with three walks. Classmate Shannon Morin pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed three hits and one run. Sophomore Paige Uliase scattered two hits over five shutout innings to earn the win for WNE.
 
Sophomore Taylor Commesso had a pair of hits for the Bison, who enter the losers bracket in the CCC Tournament and will play next Friday, May 4 against No. 8 seed Gordon at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.
