BOSTON, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team was dealt a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) losses at Wentworth Sunday afternoon at the Carr Diamond.
Game One – Wentworth 2, Nichols 0
Sophomore pitcher
Alexis Ferris held the Leopards to six hits and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts over six innings, but it wasn't enough for the Bison.
Wentworth scored twice in the first inning and then pitchers freshmen Alex Kielty and Kayla DeMeiros held the Bison to just four hits to win the opener. Kielty started and lasted four innings before giving way to DeMeiros, who tossed the final three frames; each struck out two batters.
Sophomore Deanna DiPilato singled home the first run for WIT and later scored on a wild pitch to account for the only runs of the game.
Game Two – Wentworth 2, Nichols 1 (9 inn.)
Brionna Myers singled in the winning run in the ninth as the Leopards completed the sweep. DeMeiros earned the win in the circle as she worked nine innings of six-hit ball, allowing an unearned run and striking out six.
Freshman
Shannon Morin pitched 8.1 innings for the Bison (3-16-1, 6-11-1 CCC) and was tagged for nine hits and two runs while also walking a pair. Senior
Kendall Meehan had two hits and classmate
Kasey Ayer drove in the NC run with sac bunt in the eighth, giving it a short-lived 1-0 lead.
All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 40th and 41st all-time meetings between Nichols College and Wentwroth Institute of Technology. The wins snapped a 17-game losing skid for the Leopards, who still trail the series 32-9.
