Bison snap losing skid to UNE with 15-13 win

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Junior Brayden Carroll scored four goals for the Nichols College men's lacrosse team, which defeated UNE 15-13 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.
 
Classmate Casey Campanale netted three goals and graduate student Reece O'Connor collected four points (2-2-4) for the Bison, who snapped an 11-game losing skid to the Nor'easters with the win and improved to 11-5 on the season (3-4 CCC). Senior MacKenzie Martin and sophomore Hugh O'Donnell each scored twice while freshman Brendan Coates notched three points (1-2-3). In goal, junior Brian McKinley made 20 saves to earn the win.
 
Junior Alex Zadworny led the Nor'easters with eight points on six goals and two assists. Sophomore Garrett Bozak racked up six points (3-3-6) while classmate Collin Morrow picked up three points (2-1-3).
 
The contest was tied at three after one quarter as Martin, Carroll, and O'Connor scored for the Bison. Nichols scored five of the first six goals in the second quarter to open up an 8-4 lead before settling into halftime in front 10-7. O'Donnell and Casey Campanale each scored twice.
 
Bozek and Zadworny scored in the third to help UNE (8-8, 3-3 CCC) cut its deficit to two (11-9) entering the fourth. Then, leading 12-10 early in the fourth, the Bison ripped off three straight goals as Casey Campanale (9:42), Carroll (8:18), and O'Conner (4:35) tickled the twine to extend the Bison lead to 15-10 with less than five minutes remaining. Zadworny scored the final three goals of the contest.
 
O'Donnell also led the Bison with six ground balls. Senior Matt Layton collected a game-high 12 for the Nor'easters, who outshot Nichols 48-36 and won 21-of-31 in the X.
 
All-Time Series
Today's contest marked the 26th all-time meeting between the two schools. The Bison now lead the series, 14-12.
