SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games to Western New England University Tuesday afternoon at Golden Bear Park.
 
Game One: Western New England 8, Nichols 0
Senior Jenn Luba belted two home runs and drove in four to lead the Golden Bears to a win in the opener. Sophomore Aimee Kistner  went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, which was more than enough run support for sophomore Paige Uliase, who fanned eight over seven innings to earn the win.
 
Seven different Bison recorded one hit, including junior Jessica Kuelling, sophomores Cara Mayhew, Taylor Commesso and Erin Kelley, and freshman Colleen Callahan. Sophomore Alexis Ferris surrendered 13 hits and eight runs in seven innings in defeat.
 
Game Two: Western New England 9, Nichols 2
Kistner recorded three hits and notched four RBI and Luba plated a pair as WNE completed the doubleheader sweep and improved to 17-11 (10-2 CCC). In the circle, Kistner struck out 11 over seven innings in the circle.
 
Mayhew picked up a pair of RBI singles for the Bison (11-12-1, 4-7-1 CCC) as she singled home Callahan in the first and senior Kendall Meehan in the sixth. Freshman Jessica Soucie was tagged for 11 hits and seven runs in four innings as she took the loss. She walked one and struck out three.
 
All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 46th and 47th all-time meetings between Nichols College and Western New England University. The Bison have dropped three-straight to the Golden Bears and now trail the series, 13-33-1.
