DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team split its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader with Curry College Friday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field.
Game One: Nichols 9, Curry 1 (5 innings)
Senior
Kendall Meehan drove in three runs and both senior
Courtney Manarky and sophomore
Cara Mayhew plated a pair as the Bison scored six times in the second and rolled to a game one win.
Following run-scoring hits from Manarky, senior
Kasey Ayer, and junior
Callie Andrews, Meehan's three-run triple to right field blew the game open. That was more than enough run support for sophomore starter
Alexis Ferris, who struck out five in five innings of work for her seventh win of the season.
Senior Kevi Oatway went 2-for-2 for the Colonels.
Game Two: Curry 2, Nichols 1 (8 innings)
The game remained scoreless until the eighth, when Oatway belted a two-run home run off Ferris. The Bison got one back in the bottom of the frame when junior
Jessica Kuelling doubled home sophomore
Taylor Commesso. Kuelling advanced to third on a sac bunt from Ayer, but the Bison were not able to get her home.
Freshman
Shannon Morin started for Nichols and tossed four-plus shutout innings, striking out two before being lifted for Ferris in the fifth. Ferris surrendered two hits and fanned four in the loss.
Senior Rebecca Black earned the win for the Colonels, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three in eight innings of work. The win was her third of the season.
All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 59th and 60th all-time meetings between Nichols College and Curry College. The Colonels have won three of the last four meetings and lead the series, 35-25.
