Lindsay O'Connell and
Mellissa LaFleur, along with freshman
Miranda Smith, each scored four goals for the Nichols College women's lacrosse team, which suffered a 19-17 defeat to Wentworth Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Vendetti Field.
Junior Brooke Paradis poured in a career-high eight goals and broke the Wentworth program-record for points in a game (12) for the Leopards (2-4, 1-1 CCC), who also received six goals from freshman Emily Rogers and two from sophomore Julia Dam.
The Bison (1-3, 0-2 CCC) trailed 6-1 as Paradis and Rogers each struck for three goals in the opening 17:07 of the contest. A pair of goals form sophomore
Danielle Kozloski helped NC cut its halftime deficit to 9-6.
In the second half, three goals from O'Connell in a span of 9:20 tied the game at 11. Then, with the game tied at 14, Paridis potted three-straight goals in less than two minutes to give the Leopards a 17-14 lead. Rogers' sixth marker of the contest with 3:20 to go extended the WIT lead to 19-15.
Nichols outshot Wentworth 42-38 and forced 26 turnovers. Sophomore
Emily Eagan was credited with 12 saves while freshman Lily Kuhns made 11 saves.
All-Time Series
Today's contest marked the sixth all-time meeting between Nichols College and Wentworth. The win was the first for the Leopards, who dropped the previous five meetings.
