Reece O'Connor and junior
Brayden Carroll each scored four goals in Nichols College's 15-10 win over UMass Boston Thursday evening in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Northeast Regional Park.
O'Connor also added two assists, junior
Casey Campanale collected five points (3-2-5), and senior
MacKenzie Martin racked up four points (1-3-4) for the Bison, who improved to 5-1 with the win and have five win through their first six games for the first time since 1974, when they opened the season 6-0. Nichols was outshot 37-30 and won despite winning just six of 29 face-offs.
Nichols led 3-0 after one behind goals from Martin, O'Connor, and freshman
Brendan Coates. Carroll scored twice in the second to help it extend the lead to 7-3 at halftime. The Beacons ripped off six of the next nine goals to climb to within one (10-9) with midway through the fourth before two goals each from O'Connor and Campanale helped the Bison secure the victory.
Junior
Brian McKinley recorded 11 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. Sophomore
Hugh O'Donnell led the Bison with five ground balls while junior
Trevor Young caused three turnovers.
All-Time Series
Tonight's meeting marked the 28th all-time meeting between Nichols College and UMass Boston. The Bison have won two-straight over the Beacons but still trail the series, 8-20.
