Alexis Ferris combined to strike out 13 batters as the Nichols College softball team defeated Castleton 5-4 and fell to North Central (IL) on the final day of competition for the Bison at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Thursday at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.
North Central (IL) 2, Nichols 0
Ferris tossed seven innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Nichols stranded nine runners. Junior

Cara Mayhew went 2-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth. Classmate
Erin Kelley had two hits – including a two-run single in the first – as the Bison pounded out 11 hits. Ferris came on in relief of freshman
Shannon Morin and held the Spartans scoreless over the final 1.2 innings to earn the win. Callahan and sophomore
Taylor Commesso also had two hits for NC.
