Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 1 Pointers down Bison, 5-2

Recap
Senior Matthew Menta and freshman Curtis Carlson scored goals in Nichols College's 5-2 loss to No. 1 Wisconsin-Stevens Points in non-conference men's ice hockey action Friday night at KB Willett Arena.

Junior Vincent Crivello collected two assists for the Bison (5-2-0), who were outshot 29-23 on the evening. Freshman netminder Brett Epp turned aside 24 shots to fall to 2-2-0 on the season.

Senior B.J. Duffin and sophomore Colin Raver each picked up a goal and an assist for the Pointers (7-0-2), who have not dropped a regular season contest since January 12.

Duffin and Raver struck in the first period to give the home team a 2-0 lead before Menta's fifth marker of the campaign 69 seconds into the second pulled the Bison to with one. NC was outscored 3-0 over the following 35+ minutes before Carlson's third goal of the season with 1:13 remaining in regulation made it 5-2.

Three things you need to know...
-Tonight's contest marked the first-ever meeting between Nichols and Wis.-Stevens Point. The Pointers now lead the series, 1-0-0.
-The Bison faced the No. 1 ranked team in United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III Men's Poll for the second time in program history this evening. They were defeated by then-No. 1 Manhattanville 8-1 on March 3, 2007.
-Nichols went 2-for-10 with the man advantage and held the Pointers scoreless on their four chances with the extra attacker.

Quote
"I don't think we were great and I don't think we were terrible. But, you don't beat a team like Point - the No. 1 team in the country - without bringing your best. We have to let it go and be ready for St. Thomas." -Nichols head coach Parker Burgess
