Nichols splits weekend series with SUNY Canton

Senior Kelly Ferreira notched two goals as the Nichols College women's hockey program defeated SUNY Canton 3-1 in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action Saturday afternoon at Roos House in Canton, New York.

The Kangaroos (2-3-1, 2-2-0 CHC) took the one goal lead at the 19:30 marker in the first period when sophomore Ashley Gilles netted her second goal of the young season, with an assist from classmate Breanna Bedborough.

The Bison (4-2-0, 2-2-0 CHC) exploded for three goals in the second period to take the lead and solidify the victory. Sophomore Mel McAleer tied the game at one before Ferreira potted a power play goal to give the Bison a 2-1 lead. Ferreira notched her second of the game and fifth of the year at the 19:50 mark in the second period to put the Bison up two goals. Sophomores Jordyn McGuire, McAleer and junior Emily Eagan all collected assists in the win.
 
Three things you need to know…
-McAleer collected three points in the game on a goal and two assists.
-Two other Bison collected multiple points in the game; Eagan and Ferreira
-Senior netminder Cassandra Goyette turned aside 23 shots.
