DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's soccer program has earned the No. 7-seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament and will travel to No. 2-seed Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Toppa Field in Newport, Rhode Island.
The Bison enter the CCC postseason for the
11th-straight season and are making their
20th tournament appearance overall in program history, while looking for their third CCC crown. Nichols went 2-5-1 in CCC contests this season, with wins over Wentworth and Curry.
Salve Regina earned the No. 2-seed in the tournament by posting a 6-0-2 record in CCC matches this season. The Seahawks tied with Endicott for the regular season title. However, the Gulls got the top seed after going to the second tiebreak, where Endicott beat No. 3-seed Gordon, but the Seahawks played them to a draw.
Saturday marks the
31st meeting between the two squads. The Seahawks hold a 20-8-2 edge in the series including a 4-0 win over the Bison in the regular season final in Newport, Rhode Island. The Seahawks went into the half with a three-goal lead, before scoring the fourth goal in the 51st minute to seal the win. The Bison were heavily outshot on the offensive side, 37-5.
The winner of Saturday's match advances to the CCC Semifinals on Wednesday, October 31 and will take on the winner of the CCC Quarterfinal between No. 3-seed Gordon and No. 6-seed University of New England.
