Bison make it five-straight wins, down Seahawks

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team picked up their fifth-straight victory with a 9-0 sweep of Salve Regina University on Monday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Robinson Tennis Courts in Dudley, Mass.
 
The No. 2 doubles tandem of sophomore Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine) and senior Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up the first point of the day for the Bison with an 8-0 sweep of junior Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.) and junior Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.). Freshman Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Columbia) and sophomore Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) followed with an 8-1 win over freshman Annemarie Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) and freshman Claire Wulfman (Ripton, Vt.) at No. 3 doubles, while the sophomore duo of Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) and Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 win over freshman Laura Krick (Groton, Conn.) and junior Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.).
 
Nathanson grabbed the first point of singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Burke at No. 2 singles, and Juliana Herrera took the deciding point in the match, registering a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Haas at No. 4 singles. Freshman Amanda Costa (Palmer, Mass.) added a 6-2, 6-2 win over sophomore Shealyn FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) at No. 6 singles, and Leonardi posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Carlin at No. 3 singles.
 
Settiwongse defeated Laura Krick, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and senior Tiffany Romano (South Windsor, Conn.) wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles over Wulfman.

Today's match was the 24th meeting between the two programs, and the Seahawks hold a 14-10 edge in the series, but the Bison have won 10-straight matches dating back to 2009.
