NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Nichols College women's tennis team fell 5-4 to Colby-Sawyer in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Kelsey Courts.

The Bison led 2-1 after doubles but the Chargers proceeded to take four of the six singles matches to earn the win.

Senior
Alanna Judd (Westborough, Mass.) and sophomore
Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) earned the win at No. 2 doubles over senior Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.), 8-6. The Bison also earned the win at No. 3 doubles as sophomores
Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) and
Danielle Mandel (Fair Lawn, N.J.) won 8-3 over senior Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) and junior Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.).

The Chargers only win on the doubles side came in the top flight as senior Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) and freshman Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) got the best of sophomore
Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) and senior
Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.), 8-4.

It was the Bison that got things going on the singles side, winning two of the first three matches. Leonardi defeated Gemerek 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles while Settiwongse fell 6-0, 6-4 to Woodside in the top flight. Kaplan knocked off Blanchard at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-2 to push the Bison to within one point away from claiming the match.

O'Connor pulled the Chargers to within a point with a three-set win at No. 5 singles over freshman
Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Columbia), 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Miller defeated sophomore
Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine) 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles to even the score.

The match was decided with a very back-and-forth No. 2 singles match between Judd and Yang. Judd took the first set 6-4 before Yang bounced back and won the second set by the same score. The third set was forced to go to a tiebreaker in which Yang claimed the set and the match with the 7-6 (7-2) win.

The Bison have dropped the last two meetings to the Chargers and Colby-Sawyer now leads the all-time series at 19-5.
