SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) claimed two championships at the Union College Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Union Tennis Courts.
Settiwongse advanced past Union's Megan Brown on Saturday before defeating RPI's Tess Lubin in the semifinal and ultimately defeating Union's Natalia Pezzuco 6-2, 6-1 to claim the Singles A Flight Championship.
The Bison also claimed the Doubles A Flight Championship as Settiwongse and classmate
Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) rolled over RPI's Lubin and Mailani Neal, 8-2, to claim the title.
Senior
Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophomore
Rachel McDonald (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) made it three championships for the Bison as they claimed the Doubles B Flight Championship with a win over RPI's Rahamohan and Vidhya Maran, 8-5.
Freshman
Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Columbia) – after defeating RPI's Nisha Rajamohan on Saturday – advanced passed Morgan McGuire of Holy Cross in the semifinal before falling to the Crusaders' Katie Elia in the Singles B Flight Championship, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
Another notable for the Bison was senior
Tiffany Romano (South Windsor, Conn.) finishing third in the Singles D Flight Championship after defeating Union's Nicole Cornell 6-0, 6-1 in the first round before falling to Holy Cross' Emma DeFransesco in the semifinal. Dallaire and Romano were paired in the third place match, however, Dallaire withdrew due to illness.
The Bison travel to take on Roger Williams on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
