Bison sweep Leopards to earn home playoff game

DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career as the Nichols College softball team swept its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader from Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field.
 
Game One: Nichols 9, Wentworth 0 (5 inn.)
Ferris struck out 12 and walked one to earn her 13th win of the season. Senior Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) went 3-for-3 at the plate and both senior Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) hit two-run home runs.
 
Game Two: Nichols 10, Wentworth 2 (5 inn.)
Meehan went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two RBI while sophomore Callie Andrews (Southbridge, Mass.) hit an inside the park home run that plated a pair of runs for the Bison. Senior Christina Barrows (Carver, Mass.), junior Kasey Ayer (Niantic, Conn.), and freshman Cara Mayhew (Brooklyn, Conn.) each recorded two hits, and Sears allowed five hits and two runs over five to earn her second win of the season.
 
Freshman Deanna DiPilato (Worcester, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with an RBI single for the Leopards.
 
All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 38th and 39th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Bison ran their win streak to 17 and now lead the all-time series, 32-7.
