DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team saw its season come to an end with a 2-0 loss in eight innings to Curry College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play-in game Friday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field.
Â
Curry junior Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) held the Bison to three hits over 7.2 innings of work to earn the win. She did not walk a batter and struck out four. Classmate Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) came on to record the save, retiring junior
Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) on a grounder to short with the tying runs on base to end the game.
Â
Nichols freshman starting pitcher
Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) was nearly as good, tossing eight innings of two-run ball. She scattered nine hits, walked one, and struck out five to finish the season 13-6.
Â
The Bison had runners on second and third in the fifth with two down and were unable to score. The following inning, the Colonels threatened to break the game open in the sixth when they loaded the bases with no outs before Ferris induced a strikeout, a fly out, and a force out to end the threat.
Â
Junior Rachel Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.) broke the scoreless tie in the eighth with a two-out single to center to plate senior Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) and junior Talia Forte (North Scituate, R.I.).
Â
All-Time Series
