DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman
Jessica Kuelling (Gales Ferry, Conn.) drove in five runs as Nichols College split its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader with Gordon College Monday afternoon at the Nichols Softball Field.
Â
Game One: Nichols 13, Gordon 3 (5 innings)
Kuelling went 3-for-4 – including a two-run home run – and drove in three runs as the Bison rolled to a 13-3 win over the Fighting Scots. She also crossed the plate three times for NC, which scored five runs in the first, two in the second, and one in the third.
Â
Junior
Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) – who finished the contest 3-for-4 – opened the scoring with an RBI double. In the third, Kuelling and senior
Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) each homered over the left field wall, which was more than enough run support for freshman starting pitcher
Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.). In five innings of work, Ferris allowed five hits and three runs with four walks and four strikeouts to pick up her 12th win of the season. Her final strikeout gave her 124 for the season, a new single-season program record.
Â
Junior Sarah Ryder (Telford, Pa.) hit a three-run home run for Gordon in the third. Classmate Emily Kline (Park Ridge, N.J.) started in the circle and surrendered three hits and five runs in 0.2 IP.
Â
Game Two: Gordon 10, Nichols 7
Ryder hit her second home run of the afternoon – a two-run jack in the fifth – and finished with four hits and three RBI. Freshman Caitlin Catalanotto (Kingston, N.H.) also went yard, smashing a three-run home run in the fifth, and earned the victory. She allowed eight hits and seven runs (three earned) over seven to secure her 11th win of the season.
Â
Kuelling plated two runs and also scored twice while sophomore
Zoe Chevrette (Wilbraham, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and freshman
Cara Mayhew (Brooklyn, Conn.) had two hits and scored twice. Meehan took the loss, allowing 14 hits and nine runs with six strikeouts in 4.2 IP.
