Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Seahawks defeat Bison, 21-5

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Nichols College women's lacrosse team fell 21-5 to Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Wednesday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

Senior captain Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) and junior Melissa LaFleur (Chicopee, Mass.) each potted a pair of goals while sophomore Kirsten Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) had two assists to lead the Bison.

The Seahawks were led by freshman Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) who scored a game-high six goals while assisting on another. Senior Kaitlin Gillespie (Haddam, Conn.) added five goals – including ultimately the game-winning goal at 16:02 of the first half – on a game-high 10 shots.

The Bison were outshot in the game 38-10 – including 26-4 in the first half. The Seahawks rattled off nine of the first 10 goals of the game before the Bison scored the next two to cut the deficit to six – but that is as close as the Bison would get.

Eight different student-athletes scored goals for the Seahawks who scored at least 21 goals for the fourth time in seven wins.

Freshman Emily Eagan (Hingham, Mass.) took the loss after making 13 saves in just the first half. Freshman Molly Steen (Stevensville, Md.) played the entire second half and stopped four shots. Freshman Bridget Newbury (Bridgewater, Mass.) made five saves in the win for the Seahawks.
