Hawks stymie Bison in 4-2 win

BRISTOL, R.I. – Junior James Keane (Franklin, Mass.) made 16 saves for the Nichols College men's lacrosse team, which was defeated by Roger Williams University 4-2 Thursday in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Thursday at Bayside Field.
 
Junior MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Casey Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each scored goals for the Bison, who were outshot 48-28. Freshman Cole Fontana (Grafton, Mass.) led the team with six shots while sophomore Matt O'Connell (Woburn, Mass.) collected a team-high five ground balls.
 
Senior A.J. Core (Syosset, N.Y.) netted the game-winning goal with 5:38 to go in the second period for the Hawks, who held the Bison without a goal for the final 53:56 of the contest. Senior John Lisitano (Guilford, Conn.), junior Justin MacIntyre (Norwalk, Conn.), and freshman Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) also scored for the Hawks as they rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to secure the win.
 
Nichols jumped on the board early in the game with an unassisted goal by Martin at the 10:56 mark. Four minutes later, Campanale took a pass from graduate student Reece O'Connor (North Grafton, Mass.) and buried a shot for a 2-0 Bison lead at 6:04.
 
Bova got the Hawks on the board with a man-up goal with 13 seconds remaining in the first to cut the NC lead in half. The Hawks tied the game on a goal by MacIntyre at 8:14 of the second. Core followed with the go-ahead tally at the 5:38 mark to make it 3-2 RWU, and Lisitano added what proved to be an insurance goal a minute later.
 
The Hawks outshot the Bison 27-11 over the final 30 minutes – including 17-3 in the fourth quarter. Core finished with eight ground balls for RWU while sophomore Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) stopped 13 shots to earn the win.
 
All-Time Series
Today's game between Nichols College and Roger Williams University marked the 32nd all-time meeting between the two schools. With the win, the Hawks ran their win streak to 30 and lead the series, 30-2.
