Golden Bears hold off Bison, 10-5

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Western New England University 10-5 Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Vendetti Field.
 
Junior MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) potted two goals for the Bison, which also saw graduate student Reece O'Connor (North Grafton, Mass.), senior Tyler Sikich (Hermosa Beach, Calif.), and junior Jake Zaremski (Dorchester, Mass.) score for the Bison.
 
The Golden Bears were led by sophomore Jared Ward (Littleton, Mass.) with four goals while senior Frank Medlicott (Stanwood, Wash.) netted three goals. Junior Nicholas Beauchamp (Wilbraham, Mass.) collected three points (1-2-3) while sophomore Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) led all student-athletes with seven ground balls.
 
Western New England held a 3-2 lead after one as Beauchamp and Medicott each scored once while Sikich and Zaremski scored for Nichols.  Goals from Ward and Medicott in the second helped the visitors build a 5-3 halftime lead. Martin picked up the lone tally for NC in the second.
 
Two goals from Ward sandwiched around one from O'Conner in the third brought the score to 7-4 going to the final stanza. Martin scored his second of the game at 10:12 of the fourth to bring the Bison to within two at 7-5 before goals from Medicott, Ward, and junior Chris Stone (Drexel Hill, Pa.) down the stretch sealed the win for the visitors.
 
Junior James Keane (Franklin, Mass.) got the start for NC and made five saves in the first half. Sophomore Brian McKinley (Nashua, N.H.) relieved him the second half and also stopped five shots. Junior Steven Kerr (Hopkinton, Mass.), meanwhile, recorded nine saves to earn the win for WNE.
 
All-Time Series
This evening's contest marked the 27th all-time meeting between Western New England University and Nichols College. With today's win, the Golden Bears extended their winning streak against the Bison to 23.
