MILTON, Mass. – Freshman
Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) struck out 12 in a complete game victory to help the Nichols College softball team earn a split of its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader with Curry College Thursday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field.
Game One: Nichols 3, Curry 0
Ferris scattered four hits and struck out 12 over seven innings to move to 5-1 this season. Offensively, the Bison managed just two hits but scraped across three runs in the fourth on a ground ball from senior
Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.), a sac fly off the bat off classmate
Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.), and an RBI single from freshman
Jessica Kuelling (Gales Ferry, Conn.).
Game Two: Curry 3, Nichols 2 (8 innings)
Sears belted a two-run home run in the sixth to tie the game at two and send it to extras, where the Colonels scored the game-winning run in the eighth on a wild pitch. In the circle, Sears went 7.2 innings and allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks and two strikeouts. Drake, meanwhile, went 2-for-4 at the dish.
All-Time Series
Today's games marked the 54th and 55th all-time meetings between Curry College and Nichols College. The Colonels lead the series, 33-22, however the Bison have won four of the last six meetings.
