Bison stumble against Nor'easters, 18-10

DUDLEY, Mass. – Junior MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) scored four goals in Nichols College's 18-10 loss to the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action Saturday at Vendetti Field.
 
Senior Tyler Sikich (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) racked up a goal and two helpers while junior Jack Zaremski (Dorchester, Mass.) potted two goals. Nichols was outshot 57-27.
 
Senior Andrew Curro (Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals to lead the Nor'easters, who also received two goals and four assists from senior Dan Auger (Nashua, N.H.), and four points (2-2-4) from sophomore Mitch Mullin (Cumberland, Maine).
 
The Nor'easters held a 9-3 halftime lead behind two goals from Mullin and two helpers from Auger. Martin struck twice for the Bison in the opening half.
 
UNE began to pull away in the third, outscoring Nichols 5-2 to move in front 14-5. Curro scored twice in the stanza while Auger added his 15th goal of the season. The Bison ripped off four-straight goals in the fourth – including two from Martin – while sophomore Matt O'Donnell (Woburn, Mass.) registered his first assist of 2017.
 
Senior David Pearson (Scarborough, Maine) made 11 saves to earn his sixth win of the season for UNE. Sophomore James McKinley (Nashua, N.H.) started for Nichols and made 13 saves on 26 shots.  
 
Sikich led the Bison with five ground balls while junior Matthew Layton (Medford, N.Y.) paced the visitors with six.
 
All-Time Series
This afternoon's contest marked the 24th all-time meeting between Nichols College and UNE. The Bison lead the series, 13-11, but have dropped the last nine contests.
