NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Nichols College women's tennis team took part in the Connecticut College women's tennis tournament on Sunday, Oct. 8. Four teams competed in the tournament including Holy Cross and RPI.
In the top doubles flight, sophomores
Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) registered a 9-8 win over Conn. College's senior Angelica Warren (McLeansville, N.C.) and Mariah Warren (McLeansville, N.C.) and followed that up with an 8-6 win over RPI's junior Mailani Neal (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) and sophomore Tess Lubin (Wilmette, Ill.).
In Flight B, sophomore
Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine) and senior
Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) defeated Holy Cross' senior Katie Elia (Erie, Pa.) and freshman Katya Martin (Highland, Utah) by a score of 8-3 before dropping an 8-4 setback to Conn. College's sophomore Stephanie Simon (Wellesley, Mass.) and senior Aleksandra Drljaca (East Greenwich, R.I.), 8-4.
In Flight C, the duo of sophomore
Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) and
Rachel McDonald (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) fell just short of beating RPI's junior Andrea Valencia (Lake Mary, Fla.) and junior Makenzi Herbst (Skaneateles, N.Y.), 9-8, before losing to the Holy Cross combo of junior Caroline Karn (Stonington, Conn.) and senior Meghan Lewis (Bernardsville, N.J.).
In Flight D, junior
Kristina Domantas (Holden, Mass.) and
Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Columbia) lost a tight 9-7 decision to Conn.'s sophomore Alexandra Waldman (East Hampton, N.Y.) and freshman Paige Braithwaite, but rebounded for an 8-3 win over RPI's freshman Sasha Towe (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and sophomore Jenny Lee (Miami, Fla.).
At the top singles draw,
Amarie Settiwongse defeated Conn. College's Aleksandra Drljaca, 9-7, and followed that up with an 8-3 win over Holy Cross' junior Allison Reiling (Mendham, N.J.). In Flight B,
Megan Nathanson posted an 8-3 win against Holy Cross' Katya Martin, but fell in her second match of the day, 8-4, to Conn. College's Stephanie Simon.
In Flight C,
Isabelle Leonardi dropped an 8-3 decision to RPI's Tess Lubin and later fell to Holy Cross' Katie Elia, while
Juliana Herrera won both of her Flight D matches with matching 8-4 scores over Holy Cross junior Morgan McGuire (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Conn. College's sophomore Rachel Weiss (Great Neck, N.Y.).
In Flight E,
Lindsey Kaplan suffered a hard-fought 8-6 defeat at the hands of freshman Vidhya Maran (Hamden, Conn.), while
Rachel McDonald posted an 8-5 win over Conn.'s sophomore Hayley Zukerberg (Newton, Mass.) in Flight F. She followed that up with an 8-2 setback to RPI's Makenzi Herbst.
Ashley Dallaire cruised past RPI's Sasha Towe, 8-0, in her first Flight G matchup of the day, but suffered an 8-6 loss to Conn. College's Mariah Warren.
Kristina Domantas wrapped up Flight H with an 8-0 setback to Conn.'s Alexandra Waldman and an 8-1 loss to RPI's Jenny Lee.
