SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Nichols College women's soccer team came up just short in a 2-0 setback to Western New England University on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field in Springfield, Mass.
The Bison kept the Golden Bears off the board until the 79
th minute, but Western New England struck twice in a 30 second span to pull away for the 2-0 victory.
Western New England senior Brooke Labrie (Granby, Mass.) netted the first goal for the Golden Bears before sophomore Jordan Gilmore (Waterbury, Conn.) scored off a feed from sophomore Alicia Frappier (Granby, Mass.) to extend the lead to 2-0 only 29 seconds later.
The Golden Bears held a 21-9 advantage in shots in the game, while Nichols held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Senior
Ashley Cibotti (Norton, Mass.) paced the Bison with four shots in the game.
Defensively, junior
Brooke Downey (Middleboro, Mass.) stopped 12 shots in the setback for Nichols. Sophomore Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) backstopped Western New England to the shutout by making one save.
