DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's volleyball team closed the home portion of the 2017 season with a 3-0 loss to Western New England University Tuesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Nichols Athletic Center. The Golden Bears took game one 25-19, game two 25-23, and game three 25-11.
Sophomore
J'ena Baker (Rockledge, Fla.) filled the stat sheet with a team-high 15 digs to go along with eight kills and a pair of service aces for the Bison. Classmate
Megan Gardner (South Deerfield, Mass.) was next with four kills while sophomore
Jayla Simmons (Rockledge, Fla.) notched 14 digs.
After dropping the first set, the Bison played a spirited second set that saw them build a 22-19 lead. Defense was the key as Simmons collected nine digs while Baker picked up seven and freshman
Samantha Callejo (Millbury, Mass.) registered six. In the end, however, the Golden Bears rallied back to win the set before closing out the match in three.
Senior Emmaline Chiodini (St. Louis, Mo.) led all student-athletes with 10 kills (.421 hitting pct.) and nine digs. Classmate Brianna Roath (Jackson, N.J.) was credited with 16 digs to lead WNE while senior Alona Kornberg (Fair Lawn, N.J.) had seven digs, four kills, and three service aces.

Tonight's contest marked the second all-time meeting between Western New England University and Nichols College. With the win, the Golden Bears move to 2-0 lifetime against the Bison.
