Colonels run past Bison, 46-16

MILTON, Mass. – The Nichols College football team was dealt a 46-16 loss at Curry College Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Football action at Walter M. Katz Field.

The Bison's quarterback tandem of sophomore Tony Martignoli (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and freshman Cameron Hamilton (Mattapoisett, Mass.) combined to go 22-of-43 for 226 yards and three interceptions. Martignoli started and completed 12-of-26 for 81 yards and pair of INT's before sliding over to wide receiver, where he was a first team all-conference selection last season. Hamilton finished 10-of-17 for 145 yards – 75 of which went to Martignoli – with one touchdown and one interception.

NC freshman Eric Mooney (Stoneham, Mass.) caught a game-high seven passes for 44 yards and one score, an eight-yard hookup with Hamilton for the signal-caller's first collegiate touchdown pass. Martignoli, meanwhile, rushed in from one-yard out in the first quarter, his fifth rushing TD of 2017. Senior captain Brett McEvoy (Wrentham, Mass.) notched a game-high 12 tackles for NC.

The Colonels outgained the Bison 464-279 on offense, led by senior quarterback Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.), who threw for 250 yards and four scores. Junior wide receiver Philip Lebel (Wolcott, Conn.) caught three passes for 66 yards and three scores (44, 12, 10) while sophomore back D'Aundray Burcy (Hyde Park, Mass.) rushed for a game-high 72 yards on 10 carries.

Nichols trailed by one score at halftime following a 27-yard field goal by sophomore Alex Santiago (Sunrise, Fla.) as time expired in the second quarter, capping a nine-play, 63-yard drive. The Colonels put up 14 points in both the third and fourth quarter to pull away.
