FORT MYERS, Fla. – Junior
Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) had two hits and an RBI in Nichols College's 7-5 loss to UMass Dartmouth at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Saturday afternoon at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.
Junior
Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.), along with sophomores
Kasey Ayer (Niantic, Conn.) and
Courtney Manarky (Amston, Conn.), also drove in runs for the Bison, who suffered their second defeat of the afternoon and stand at 1-3 on the season.
Nichols scored once in the first and four times in the third to build a 5-1 lead. Ayer doubled home the first run of the game in the bottom of the first before RBI singles from Drake, Sears, and Manarky sparked the fourth inning rally.
The Corsairs (3-1) rallied back for five runs in the fifth, then tacked on a single run in the top of the seventh to take a two-run lead (7-5) to the seventh. Sears made a bid to tie the game with a long drive to center field, but freshman Maddie O'Gryzek (Norfolk, Mass.) made a spectacular catch to end the game, knocking the outfield fence down in the process.
Nichols returns to action on Sunday with games against Alfred St. (9:00 a.m.) and Saint Joseph's (CT) (11:00 a.m.) in Naples, Fla.
