NAPLES, Fla. – Sophomores
Kasey Ayer (Niantic, Conn.) and
Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) each drove in a run in Nichols College's 3-2 loss to Wisconsin-Superior Friday morning in the season opener at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at North Collier Regional Park.
Nichols led 1-0 going to the seventh on an RBI double by Meehan in the third that plated junior
Samantha DiReda (Shrewsbury, Mass.). The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the seventh on a home run off the bat of sophomore Ciarra Taipale (Duluth, Minn.). The Bison regained the lead at 2-1 in the eighth on an RBI single up the middle by Ayer before Wisconsin-Superior plated two in its half of the frame to win the game.
Junior
Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) surrendered six hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings for Nichols. She did not walk a batter and struck out a pair. Junior Sarah Henderson (Duluth, Minn.) struck out 10 in eight innings of work to earn the win, her second of the season.
Nichols takes on Brockport at 3 p.m. at North Collier Regional Park.
