Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) completed her career at Nichols with wins in singles and doubles as the Nichols College women's tennis team defeated Smith 6-3 in non-conference tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Rectory School.
Benoit finishes her career with the Bison holding the program record for career singles' wins with 60.
Nichols took an early 2-1 advantage after doubles play. In the top flight, freshmen
Alanna Judd (Westborough, Mass.) and
Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) knocked off senior Ruth Yi (Tacoma, Wash.) and sophomore Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J.), 8-4.
Benoit and sophomore
Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) defeated senior Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y.) and freshman Anja Block (Los Angeles, Calif.) 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Smith picked up the win at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J.) and freshman Samantha Peikes (West Hartford, Conn.) paired up to defeat seniors
Kasie Chapin (West Springfield, Mass.) and
Katie Malloy (Norwell, Mass.), 8-2.
The Bison breezed through the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles matches. Candia defeated senior Seema Samawi (New York City, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-1 and freshman
Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) defeated sophomore Christine Yee (South San Francisco, Calif.) 6-0, 6-1 while freshman
Daniela Saldarriaga (Medellin, Colombia) took down freshman Katherine Hazen (Chicago, Ill.) 6-1, 6-2, respectively.
The Pioneers picked up points in the top two singles with Dubin defeating Judd 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Peikes defeating Szepanski in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.
Benoit got the best of Smith 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The Bison complete their year with a final record of 15-5 while the Pioneers finish their year with a final record of 6-14.
