NEWPORT, R.I. – The Nichols College softball team suffered a pair of losses at Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Toppa Field. The Seahawks won game one, 6-0, and game two, 3-1.
The Bison (5-13, 1-7 CCC) did not record a hit in the opener as junior Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) fanned 11 over seven innings to earn the win for SRU. Junior Melissa Figueiredo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs in the second for the Seahawks while sophomore Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI double.

Haley Fountain (Warren, Mass.) took the loss in the opener as she surrendered 12 hits and six runs (two earned) in six innings. She walked two and struck out four.
The Bison fell behind 1-0 in game two on a sac fly by sophomore Skye Hart (Hope Valley, R.I.) in the second before pushing across an unearned run in the fourth to tie the game. Sophomore
Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) hit a grounder to first that couldn't be handled, allowing freshman
Brianna Kilborn (North Brookfield, Mass.) to score from second. In the sixth, sophomore Lexi Soucie (North Easton, Mass.) laced a two-run single to right-center to put the home team up 3-1.
Freshman
Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) gave up seven hits and three earned runs, and was tagged with the loss. Sophomore Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) held the Bison to three hits and one run over seven to earn the victory for the Seahawks. Fountain went 2-for-3 in game two.
Nichols hosts Endicott in a CCC doubleheader tomorrow at noon. Salve Regina hosts Brandeis for a pair Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
