Bison earn first conference win of the season, defeat Curry 13-12



DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) potted four goals in Nichols College's 13-12 win over Curry College Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse action at Vendetti Field.

Senior Erica Antonison (Albertson, N.Y.) chipped in with four as the Bison (2-5, 1-2 CCC) win their first conference game of the year and defeated the Colonels (4-6, 1-2 CCC) for the first time in three years. Junior Alexa Smith (Salem, N.H.) dished out four assists.

Sophomore Lauren Carroll (Providence, R.I.) scored a game-high five goals for the Colonels while junior Alexis Cran (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) each scored twice.
Nichols jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Bufis and four helpers form Smith. The Colonels scored three of the next four goals to head into the halftime trailing by five (8-3). The Bison outshot the Colonels 16-6 in the first half.

Antonison and Bufis scored early in the second half to extend the NC lead to 10-4. Once again, Curry ripped off three of the next four goals to climb to within three at 11-8 with 3:49 remaining on the clock.
Nichols responded with goals from Bufis and sophomore Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) to move ahead 13-8. Carroll scored three goals in the final 1:49 – including two in the final 15 seconds – to give her 21 goals on the season and close the scoring.

The Colonels won 21 of the 27 draw controls – led by Cran with 10 – and outshot the Bison 26-22. Bufis led all student-athletes with eight ground balls while Antonison finished with a team-high four caused turnovers. Cran led Curry with four ground balls.  

Sophomore Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) made six saves to earn her second win of the season.

The Bison host UNE Thursday at 4 p.m. Curry hosts Worcester State Thursday at 6 p.m.
