Bison downed by Nor'easters, 14-9



DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) had a season-high six points (3-3-6) as the Nichols College women's lacrosse team fell 14-9 to U New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play Thursday night at Vendetti Field.

Sophomore Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) paced the Bison with four goals while chipping in with one assist. Senior Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) accounted for the other two goals and added one helper as Nichols falls to 2-6 on the season and 1-3 in the CCC.

The Bison caused a season-high 16 turnovers – including seven by Murphy – but turned the ball over a season-high 32 times as the Nor'easters improve to 2-1 in CCC-play (4-6 overall).

UNE was led by senior Nikki Smith (Shapleigh, Maine) with four goals while senior Macki Hill (York Beach, Maine) scored three goals and senior Rachel Schwarner (Holderness, N.H.) had two. Five other student-athletes had goals for the Nor'easters as they improve to 15-1 all-time against the Bison.

UNE took a 7-6 lead into halftime despite Nichols edging the Nor'easters in the shot column, 12-11. The Bison answered with goals from Bufis and Marion to start the second half and had the lead 8-7 with just under-29 minutes to go in the contest.

The Nor'easters scored the seven of the final eight goals of the game to put the Bison away.

Sophomore Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) stopped six shots in the loss and falls to 2-6 on the year. Junior Courtney Kendall (Waltham, Mass.) had eight saves in her first victory of the season.

The Bison host Lasell on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Nor'easters host Southern Maine on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
