MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Senior
Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) picked up a hat trick for the fourth time this season as the Nichols College women's lacrosse team fell 12-8 to Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Sunday afternoon at Gaudet Field.
Bufis scored four goals for the second time this season and the second time in three games. Freshman
Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) had three points (2-1-3) while sophomores
Olivia Morawski (Fairfield, Conn.) and
Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) each scored goals as the Bison fell to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in the CCC.
The Seahawks (4-5, 2-2 CCC) was led by senior Sarah Woods (East Lyme, Conn.) with three goals while freshmen Katie Kline (Brookfield, Conn.) and Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) and junior Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) each had two goals and an assist.
Salve Regina jumped out to a 6-1 lead while outshooting the Bison 17-8 in the first half. Nichols improved in the second half, outshooting the Seahawks 18-14 and outscoring them 7-6 but it wasn't enough.
Sophomore
Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) stopped 10 shots but falls to 1-5 on the year. Junior Katie Jones (Derry, N.H.) moves to 1-0 on the season after making 10 saves.
The Bison host conference foe Curry on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Seahawks host Roger Williams on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
