Bison fall to Golden Bears, 20-4



DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) scored his 24th goal of the season as the Nichols College men's lacrosse team fell 20-4 to Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Thursday afternoon at Vendetti Field.

The Golden Bears (4-4, 1-0 CCC) led 14-0 at the half and outshot the Bison 34-5 through the first 30 minutes of play.

The Bison (4-3, 0-1 CCC) put their first three goals on the board in the third quarter after allowing three more goals from WNEU. Sophomore Dylan Baer (Webster, N.H.), freshman MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman John Zaremski (Dorchester, Mass.) each put goals in for Nichols to pull the score to 17-3.

Western New England was led by sophomore Justin Bard (Westfield, Mass.) with five points (2-3-5) and senior Dan McKenna (Merrick, N.Y.) with four points (1-3-4). Sophomore Frank Medlicott (Stanwood, Wash.) poured in a game-high three goals while eight Golden Bear student-athletes registered at least two points.

Freshman James Keane (Franklin, Mass.) moves to 4-3 on the year after stopping eight shots. The Golden Bears saw action from three different goaltenders with senior Brandon Body (Newtown, Conn.) taking the win after playing just the first quarter and making one save. Senior Cam Gormley (Crofton, Md.) made three saves and allowed three goals through the second and third quarter while junior Jimmy Chase (Beverly, Mass.) had one stop in playing the final quarter.

 The Bison travel to take on conference foe Salve Regina on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Golden Bears host U New England Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
