Jeremy Nash (West Springfield, Mass.) stopped four shots on his way to his first shutout of the season as the Nichols College men's soccer team defeated Clark (MA) 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.
Nash had five shutouts for the Bison last season on his way to setting the Nichols' all-time goals-against average (GAA) with 0.88.
The Bison (2-0-0) had a few threats early in the game but finally put one in the net at the 30-minute mark of the first half. Sophomore and Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week
Ryan Banker (Ashaway, R.I.) potted his second goal of the season after receiving a cross from freshman
Rielee Mohsin (Stuart, Fla.) that bounced through the goalies hands and onto his foot.
The Bison went into the half up 1-0. Nichols outshot Clark (MA) 7-1 in the first half.
The Cougars came out on the offensive in the second half but couldn't muster up a solid scoring chance.
Banker and Mohsin led the way for the Bison with four shots apiece while junior
Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) had three shots and senior
Phil Mitto (Windsor, Conn.) took two shots.
Clark (MA) (1-2-0)was led by freshman Demetri Boumis (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) with two shots while four other student-athletes provided one shot each.
Nash picks up his first win of the season. Freshman Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) stopped five shots and fell to 1-2-0.
"I knew this would be a good test for us," said Nichols head coach
Chris Traina. "Clark is a solid team that plays a similar style to us, but we came out and played hard."
The Bison travel to take on Springfield Saturday at noon. The Cougars host Eastern Nazarene Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
