Rapid-fire Goals Pushes Men's Soccer Past JWU to End Season, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/27/2026) - The Nichols College men's soccer team scored twice in the final four minutes to rally past Johnson & Wales University (JWU), 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex.

Following the win, men's soccer closes their season with an 8-9 record overall, 4-6 in the Conference of New England (CNE). On the other end, JWU finishes 3-4-9, 2-4-4 in conference play.

The teams played to a scoreless first half, with Johnson & Wales (3-4-9, 2-4-4 CNE) generating several early chances. Goalkeeper Chase Henderson kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard with two first-half saves, including stops on attempts by Bruno Teixeira and Jayden Suriel. Nichols' best opportunity in the opening half came from Aysaiah Chavez, whose shot was blocked in the 22nd minute.

Henderson continued to come up big after the break, stopping another attempt from Suriel early in the second half. Johnson & Wales threatened again in the 62nd minute when Teixeira struck the post, while Henderson later denied Vincent Tredici and Christopher Vargas to keep the contest scoreless.

The Wildcats eventually broke through in the 73rd minute, as Vargas converted a free kick into the far-right corner to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Nichols continued to push for an equalizer, with Chavez forcing a save in the 80th minute. The Bison found their breakthrough with just over three minutes remaining when Knowles converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute to level the score at 1-1.

The Bison weren't finished. Just over two minutes later, Reilly found the back of the net in the 89th minute for his fifth goal of the season, completing the late comeback and giving Nichols a 2-1 lead. The Bison held on through the final whistle to earn the road victory.

Henderson finished with eight saves in the full 90 minutes, helping Nichols withstand a 23-7 advantage in shots for Johnson & Wales. Chavez recorded two shots, while Knowles and Reilly each scored to lead the Bison offensively.

The Bison were led in minutes played by Henderson, Chavez, Blake Benigni, and Ullo, who each logged 90 minutes in Nichols College's 2-1 comeback victory over Johnson & Wales University.
