Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore
Aaron Sinclair (Saco, Maine) and freshman
Cooper Milano (Caldwell, N.J.) each scored their first goals of the season in Nichols College's 3-0 win over Daniel Webster in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.
Junior goalkeeper
Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) recorded a pair of saves as the Bison (6-0-2) remained unbeaten through their first eight matches for the second-consecutive season. The shutout was the fifth of the season for Nichols and the third for Geas.
The match remained scoreless through the first 37 minutes until an own goal gave Nichols a 1-0 lead. The half closed with the Bison outshooting the Eagles 17-1.
Nichols struck for a pair of goals 2:45 apart midway through the second half to seal the win. Milano took a feed from senior
Phil Mitto (Windsor, Conn.), ran down the left side and placed a shot into the far right corner to double the home team's lead. Sinclair's marker at 68:45 was a header off a ball from senior
Michael Perry (Plainville, Mass.).
The Eagles best scoring chance came with 10 minutes remaining on a cross from senior Andrew Sousa (Raymond, Maine) over to sophomore Nathan Misidi (Atlanta, Ga.), but his header sailed just over the crossbar.
"We weren't firing on all cylinder at the start of the match, but we found our rhythm with about 15 minutes left in the first half," said Nichols head coach
Chris Traina. "We were fortunate to get the own goal in the first half. In the second half, we made a few changes and it showed. We had goals come from some different people, which is always nice to see."
Junior Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) made six saves in defeat for the Eagles, who were outshot 30-7. Nichols held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Geas finished with two saves.
The Bison host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Curry Saturday at 11 a.m. while Daniel Webster host Rivier October 1 at 4 p.m. "Curry plays a very similar style to us. It's going to be a very tough, close match," said Traina. "We played them to a scoreless draw last year, so we know what we're in for."
