Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore
Brooke Maher (North Attleboro, Mass.) potted her second goal of the season as the Nichols College women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.
Neither team could get on the board in the first half as both teams showed some solid defensive play, including junior
Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.) who had five saves in the first half.
Endicott (3-2-2, 1-1-0 CCC) outshot Nichols 6-2 for the first half before exploding for 13 shots in the second half.
The game remained scoreless until the 79th minute when junior Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) broke away from the defense and placed a shot into the lower left side of the net to make the score 1-0 Gulls.
Junior Rebecca Litwin (Westborough, Mass.) added a goal at the 88-minute mark when she fired off a shot from outside the box that went over English and into the back of the net.
Nichols (4-3-0, 1-1-0 CCC) answered back just 34 seconds later when Maher was able to best the senior goaltender Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) to cut the lead in half.
The Gulls would hold on to the ball, however, and run out the clock to take the win.
The Bison were led by junior
Madison Catarius (Wareham, Mass.) with two shots while Maher and junior
Kathleen Ledbetter (Norton, Mass.) each provided one shot. Endicott was led by Litwin, sophomore Shelby McLenithan (Bennington, Vt.) and junior Audry Parolin (Cubmerland, Maine) with three shots apiece.
English stopped 10 shots but earned the loss, falling to 1-3-0 on the season. Donnelly improves to 3-2-2 with her two save performance.
The Bison are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to take on Fisher at a time to be announced. The Gulls travel to take on Babson on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
