Nichols blanked by Wildcats, 4-0

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Johnson & Wales (RI) University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Elizabeth Marinaro (Palo Alto, Calif.) and freshmen Gabriella Weithofer (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Kyra Selner (Sterling, Va.) each scored their first goals of the season as the Wildcats outshot the Bison 21-8 on the afternoon.

JWU opened up a 1-0 lead on Selner's first collegiate goal at 16:20, lofting a shot over the keeper from just behind the circle at the top of the box. Marinaro doubled the visitors lead when she too placed a shot  over the keeper and into the net from a few yards in front of where Selner's goal was sent from at 32:05.

Less than three minutes later, Weithofer's bullet was stopped by junior Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.), but the rebound was punched into the air so hard that if fell behind her and in. The fourth Wildcats goal was an own goal at 69:50.

English finished with six saves before being lifted in favor of senior Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.) late in the second half. Juniors Alex Place (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Cassandra Collins (Oswego, N.Y.) each played a half for JWU with Collins recording the only save of the afternoon.

Sophomore Jillian Krish (Rockland, Mass.) led Nichols with three shots.

The Bison (1-1-0) return to action on September 11 with a home match against Coast Guard at 4 p.m. The Wildcats play at Eastern Connecticut State Friday at 4:30 p.m.
