Fighting Scots sweep doubleheader from Bison

WENHAM, Mass. – Freshman Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs for Nichols College, which suffered losses of 3-2 and 8-1 to Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) baseball action Monday afternoon at J.Tec White Field.

Junior Brett Franciosi (Leominster, Mass.) also drove in a run for the Bison, who fell to 3-15 (2-4 CCC) heading into Wednesday's home opener against Westfield State. The Fighting Scots move to 11-8 (6-4 CCC) with the sweep.

Gordon grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opener on a sac fly by junior Pullen (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the third and another from freshman Joe Olszak (Danvers, Mass.) in the fourth. Run-scoring singles from Franciosi and Hardy in the fifth tied the score at two before junior Alonzo Martinez (El Paso, Texas) won the game with a walk-off sac fly in the seventh.

Senior Tyler Shute (Mashpee, Mass.) allowed six hits and three runs in 6.1 innings of work as he saw his record fall to 1-3. Junior Wesley Arning (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was credited with the win after working recording the final
two outs in the top of the sixth.

Senior Shayne McNally (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) each recorded two hits in the nightcap. Sophomore Joseph Nicolace (Cranston, R.I.) surrendered five hits and five runs in four innings of work in his first loss of the season.

Martinez, junior Jesse Amaya (South Gate, Calif.), and sophomore Alex Smith (Wethersfield, Conn.) each drove in two runs for the Fighting Scots in game two. Arning went the distance on the bump to improve to 5-0 this season. He allowed six hits and fanned four.

Gordon hosts Williams tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
