Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Nichols College baseball team was defeated by Western New England University 8-1 and 12-6 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Monday at Trelease Park.
Freshmen
Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.),
Scott Iacobucci (Hope, R.I.), and
Tim Ford (Stafford Springs, Conn.) each drove in a run for the Bison (6-26) while sophomore
Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI in game two.
Graduate student Mike Lospinuso (West Islip, N.Y.) had a dominant pitching performance in the opener for the Golden Bears (16-18-1, 11-5 CCC), allowing just three hits through six innings to pick up his fourth win of the season. Seniors Taylor Searles (Seymour, Conn.) and Jeff Schult (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) drove in two runs apiece for WNE.
Western New England busted out for five runs through the second and third innings to break the game open. Schult and sophomore Doug Milne (Neconset, N.Y.) both scored off of a throwing error in the second inning, and each scored again in the third inning. Nichols got a run back in the fourth when freshman
Jeff Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) grounded into a double play which plated McNally.

Collin Geagan (Watertown, Mass.) allowed four hits and no earned runs while walking five in three innings to fall to 0-5 on the season.
After an RBI single by Harrow to score Hardy in the first inning of game two, the Golden Bears put up a '6' spot in the second inning – capped off by a RBI-double by Milne – to take an early lead. Western New England tacked on three in the fourth and three in the sixth to extend its lead to 12-1.
The Bison rallied for five runs in the seventh as Harrow roped a two-run double down the line and Ford, Iacobucci, and Hardy each recorded RBI singles to bring the score to 12-6.
Junior Trevor Breton (Enfield, Conn.) tossed five innings and allowed two hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out five to move to 5-1 on the season. Sophomore
Joseph Nicolace (Cranston, R.I.) surrendered 10 hits and six runs (all earned) in three innings of work to take the loss.
Nichols (6-26, 5-11 CCC) hosts Anna Maria College Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. Western New England hosts Salve Regina on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the CCC Tournament.
