Curry uses second-half surge to defeat Bison, 16-5

MILTON, Mass. – The Nichols College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Curry College 16-5 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Thursday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

Junior Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) and freshman Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) each scored twice for the Bison (7-6, 2-5 CCC) while junior Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) added one. Sophomore Alexa Smith (Salem, N.H.) dished out a pair of assists.

Freshman Ali Schoff (Berwick, Maine) potted four goals to lead the Colonels (9-7, 3-4 CCC), who also received three goals and three assists from senior Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) and two goals from both senior Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.).Junior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) was credited with eight saves to earn her ninth win of the season.

The Colonels had a 34-15 edge in shots and led 6-2 at halftime. They went on a 7-0 run in the second half to turn a 7-4 lead into a 14-4 lead with 11:30 on the clock.

Freshman Meghan Dombkowski (Sagaponak, N.Y.) led Nichols with three ground balls. Senior Julie Monroe (Whitman, Mass.) posted a team-high three caused turnovers. Freshman Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded eight saves.

Nichols plays Roger Williams on Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. The Colonels close the regular season with a home game against Endicott next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
