The Nor'easters (7-6, 2-3 CCC) tallied a season-high in goals, behind a combined 11 from junior Gina Newsome (Danbury, Conn.) and senior Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), as they snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. UNE has won all but one of the 15 all-time meetings against the Bison.
Newsome netted a season-best six goals and finished with nine points for the hosts, who never trailed in the match. Tavella had five goals and four draw controls and junior Nikki Smith (Shapleigh, Maine) added three markers. Freshman Jocelyn Davee (Freeport, Maine) registered a pair of goals to go with four draws and three caused turnovers, and classmate Shannen Healy (Bedford, N.H.) picked up a game-high five ground balls.
UNE sophomore Courtney Kendall (Waltham, Mass.) posted 17 saves for the decision between the pipes.
The Nor'easters got up 5-1 less than six minutes into the contest, and the difference was six (13-7) at the halftime break. Newsome factored in six of the goals for the home side.
Three more goals right out of the gate in the second period padded the lead for UNE to 16-7, and the teams played nearly even the rest of the way.
The Bison head to Gordon College the same afternoon (4 p.m.). UNE stays in Biddeford for a key CCC date with Curry College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
