SUNY New Paltz edges Nichols, 3-2

Box Score

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Sophomores Joseph Nicolace (Cranston, R.I.) and Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) each drove in a run in Nichols College's 3-2 loss to SUNY New Paltz Sunday afternoon at the Snowbird Classic.

Harrow and freshman Jeff Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) each recoded a pair of hits for the Bison (0-4), who saw senior starting pitcher Tyler Shute (Mashpee, Mass.) scatter eight hits in five innings of work. He surrendered two earned runs and did not walk a batter while striking out three.

SUNY New Paltz scored twice in the first inning to take an early lead. Nichols got one back in the fifth when Nicolace singled to center to plate Harrow. In the fifth, the Bison tied the game at two on Harrow's single to center that brought home freshman Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.).

The Hawks scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on back-to-back, two-out doubles.

Nichols plays Farmingdale State Monday at noon. The Hawks, meanwhile, were slated to play the Rams later this afternoon.
