Corsairs jump out to early lead, defeat Nichols 17-6

Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. – Junior Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) picked up his third hat trick of the season as the Nichols College men's lacrosse team fell to UMass Dartmouth 17-6 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field.

The Corsairs (4-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back. Sophomore Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) scored a game-high five goals and picked up an assist. Junior Riley Baxter (Groton, Mass.) also recorded a hat trick.

Senior Zac Smith (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season while freshman Matt Feigenblat (Shelton, Conn.) and junior Corey Davis (Billerica, Mass.) also tallied goals for the Bison.

"We lost today because we panicked and didn't stick to our game plan," said Nichols head coach Eric Gobiel. "We can't do that against teams like UMass Dartmouth."

Freshman Peter Zygaldo (Hanover, N.H.) picked up seven saves in the loss and fell to 2-2 on the season. Senior Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, Mass.) totaled eight saves and improves to 4-0 for UMD. Freshman Rob Belger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) tallied 14 saves in his first action of the year following the conclusion of the men's ice hockey season.

"Rob did an outstanding job to save us from allowing more goals than we did," said Gobiel.

Nichols (2-2) returns to action Tuesday in Virginia Beach, Va. when it takes on New England College at 5:00 p.m. The Corsairs travel to Roger Williams Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
