Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Nichols College women's soccer team fell to UMass Dartmouth 1-0 Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Cressy Field.
The loss marks the third game in the last four for the Bison in which they have lost by a 1-0 score.
Sophomore Talia D'Ambruoso (Warwick, R.I.) scored the game's only goal in the 23rd minute. Sophomore Erica Farias (Tiverton, R.I.) gathered her own rebound and slid a pass towards the middle of the pitch, where D'Ambruoso ripped her third marker of the season into the lower left corner of the net.
The Bison nearly tied the contest in the 57th minute when Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) leading scorer, freshman
Meghan Dunn (Dudley, Mass.), broke in before the Corsair defensive third, but sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Butts (Milford, Mass.)charged out and smothered the attempt.
Nichols (6-6-0) recorded nine shots in the game, including only two in the first half, while the Corsairs fired off 26 shots.
The Bison were led by Dunn with three shots and junior
Lindsey Stewart (Mashpee, Mass.) with two. The Corsairs were paced by senior Maura Gonsalves (Dartmouth, Mass.) with five shots.
Junior
Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.) stopped nine shots as she falls to 3-6-0 on the season. Butts improves to 3-2-0 on the year as she made two saves to stretch her personal shutout streak to 309 minutes, 41 seconds, a span stretching five matches.
The Bison travel to take on conference foe Gordon on Saturday at noon. The Corsairs (6-5-0) travel to take on Keene State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
